Lumber for a rear bumper? I see a handful of those around here every day (central NH), but usually on old pickups. And by old, I mean ~10+ year old ‘murcian pickups, mostly.

On my 1990 Civic that I had in high school / college, the inner part of my rear bumper rusted out. So I bolted on a nice piece of rough-sawn cedar, and re-attached the bumper cover to that, for a sweet OEM look with rot-resistant lumber for structure.

I’d have gone with composite decking for durability and no splinters.
